The village is best known for the notable farmer and janissary Alidakis, who had a big estate in the village.
It remains untouched by modern day tourism, and the area is one of extreme unspoilt natural beauty, offering a perfect base for walkers and nature enthusiasts, or those wanting to relax and enjoy the tranquility of a traditional Cretan village.
A stroll into the village one will find a small Kafenio and a tavern serving simple Cretan dishes.
Just a 7min drive away is the larger village of Vrysses with several taverns, kafenia, super markets, bank, post office, and a few minutes driving on, is the National Highway Chania-Rethymno, and the long sandy beach of Georgioupolis is reachable in approx. 15min.
